Defeat the Beat 2019
Defeat the Beat 2019 is an upcoming youth music event where the stars of the show are talented local young people! The City has called for bands, soloists, beatboxers, DJ’s, Hip Hop artists and other young people to enter, and showcase their abilities by performing live on stage on 17 April 2019 at Bar1 Nightclub, Hillarys Boat Harbour, Hillarys.
Five entries have been selected as finalists to perform at the event and they will be judged on criteria ranging from musicianship and professionalism, originality, stage presence and entertainment value.
The finalists are:
- Danni K
- Sugarwood
- Danika Dray
- Yesterday’s Jam
- Charlie Martin
Plus there will performance by the 2018 Defeat the Beat winners, Piece of Mind to close the event.
There are some great prizes up for grabs including:
- a professional photo shoot
- $1,000 worth of Joondalup Music Centre vouchers
- Professional studio recording time
As well as these prizes, the winning entrant will get bragging rights as winner of the 2019 Defeat the Beat competition.
Youth events such as Defeat the Beat aim to empower young people by providing a platform to develop and build on their unique interests, various talents and ambitions through a positive experience. There are also links between music and mental health, for example focus, expression, social connection, creativity, relaxation and motivation.
Defeat the Beat is a smoke, drug and alcohol-free ticketed event.
